Sources in Irish Art 2: A Reader is an anthology of literary and critical sources for the study of visual art and Ireland. It is a completely new version of the 2000 publication, Sources in Irish Art with an additional editor, brand new texts with the historical range stretching from the seventeenth to the twenty-first centuries.
In 1845, a Reading bookseller named John Snare came across the dirt-blackened portrait of a prince at a country house auction. Suspecting that it might be a long-lost Velazquez, he bought the picture and set out to discover its strange history - a quest that led from fame to ruin and exile. This book pays homage to the Spanish master Velazquez.

Thaddeus was a fifteenth-century bishop of Cork who was honoured in both Ireland and Italy. He led a remarkable life – he was made bishop twice but never actually served as such, and was beatified in 1895 – but is now all but forgotten.
