Irish signage is the most visible display that we have of our native tongue since the foundation of the Irish Free State in 1922. There are many publications regarding this signage and it is common that attention is directed to the various versions of place names or the origin of these place names.
Little analysis has been done on the State’s policy to this signage, however, and this is what inspired Maura Lynskey to write this book.
