Edmund Sexten Pery: The politics of virtue and intrigue in eighteenth century Ireland

The Tholsell Court was established for the settlement of small debts, with the [Lord] Mayor and Sheriffs of Dublin presiding. The surviving records, held in Dublin City Library & Archive, range from the early 17th to the mid-18th century, and are in secretary hand. From 6 January 1920 recruiting to the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) was extended outside of Ireland to candidates with military experience to supplement the native Irish force, then depleted by massive resignations, suffering IRA attacks and widespread social exclusions.
