The author’s note is an excerpt of a paper by Soroptimist International which states the facts. “She did not feel the soft skin part as the knife sliced across his throat, severing the pulsating artery, vanishing in a gush of blood. Her eyes remained riveted on the dying man…” Free at last, she flees, desperate to get to the embassy, desperate to return home… The mutilated body of a young woman is found in a skip in the East End of London. One of many, too many for anyone too care: just another junkie, a prostitute. Life is fast, cruel and destructive, forcing people to overstep the line in achieving their goals, to find the riches they seek. Niall, Irina, Paul, Sinead and Vera are no different: a murderous bastard, a lover, a deceitful diamond dealer and two young prostitutes. Each has chosen their own path in fulfilling their ambitions, in finding their dreams. But as their lives cross in Ireland, it may be a path they will regret. Did sheer chance bring them together, or are there other forces at play?
