Motivated by the occasion and moved by his brother Theo naming the child after him, Van Gogh painted Almond Blossom as a gift in celebration of the event. Van Gogh shared a close relationship with his brother Theo, writing letters to him throughout his life, with more than 600 letters still surviving.
